    When New Becomes the Norm
I’m sometimes amazed at all the “new” in my professional and personal life primarily because of the COVID-19 pandemic. But many of our new routines, new software and new priorities are here to stay. We see this in the work of TMA Foundation with a priority on grants supporting physician health and wellness that started in 2020 and continues into 2022. We also see new priority health needs in the grants we make to TMA county medical societies and alliance and medical student chapters. The Family of Medicine is educating elementary students about COVID-19, helping Texans better manage their diabetes and blood pressure and offering vaccinations and education in communities where vaccination rates are low and hesitancy high. Thank you for making the “new” possible!

With your support and volunteer spirit, the foundation will continue to seize new opportunities to support TMA’s vision: To improve the health of all Texans.

    Yours in good health,

    Michael E. Speer, MD
    President, TMA Foundation

  • How Donors Are Impacting Texans in 2022

More individual donors made unrestricted gifts last year that are helping support 25 initiatives so far in 2022. Most programs impact uninsured and underserved Texans facing chronic health conditions, those who lack access to care and people who need reliable, science-based information to make health decisions.

All programs funded by TMAF are developed and carried out by TMA and TMA Alliance members in collaboration with community organizations that are passionate about improving the health of all Texans. TMAF Board President Michael E. Speer, MD, Houston, shares more about the 2022 TMAF-funded TMA and TMA Alliance statewide outreach programs.

  • Vaccines Defended What Matters in 2021

    HHLH2020

Sixteen grants and 2 million Texans reached through social media are just the tip of the accomplishment iceberg that TMA achieved in its new Vaccines Defends What Matters (VDWM) campaign funded by TMAF in 2021. This bilingual campaign was transformed from the decades long Be Wise - Immunize program into an integrated, multimedia public health education and advocacy effort to overcome vaccine hesitancy and increase vaccination rates in Texas. Complemented by fact sheets for physicians and patients as well as by CME, this campaign is guided by TMA physician expertise and input from the Committee on Infectious Disease, Committee on Health Promotion, COVID-19 Task Force and workgroups on School Reopening and COVID-19 Outpatient Care. This dynamic campaign continues into 2022 with funding from TMAF and generous support from H-E-B, TMF Health Quality Institute and the Permian Basin Youth Chavarim.
