The Physicians Benevolent Fund (PBF) -- A 60-Year Legacy
"I don't know what I would have done without your help. Your generosity is a blessing. Thank you," said one grateful PBF recipient.
It is the best kept secret at TMA, but it shouldn't be. Help TMA spread the word... especially during these difficult COVID-19 pandemic times. Over the course of sixty years, PBF has helped countless physicians and their immediate families. It all started in 1961 with a $2,500 donation from the late May Owen, MD, a Fort Worth pathologist and past president of TMA. Dr. Owen's foresight and recognition of this unmet need within the medical community set the course for a thriving charitable program which helps during difficult times.
Some PBF recipients are elderly and not practicing medicine, some are disabled or ill, and some are widowed and raising families. With your help, PBF will continue to take care of the Family of Medicine. Each month, recipients receive help with personal necessities - rent or mortgage, utilities, health insurance, medical bills, clothing, and food. If you know someone who would benefit, please direct them to the PBF webpage for qualification details and the confidential questionnaire.
Newly developed in 2020, the PBF Wellness Fund provides financial assistance for licensed physicians who cannot afford treatment.
PBF thrives because of the generosity of TMA members willing to share with less fortunate colleagues and families. Contributions are tax-deductible and may be in the form of honoraria or memorials. Visit the program webpage to learn more about how PBF can help.
