HCA Healthcare’s Gulf Coast Division recently became Southeast Texas’ final major health system to join Greater Houston Healthconnect, the region’s health information exchange (HIE).
Healthconnect integrates the area’s many different electronic health records (EHRs) to allow physicians and health care providers to share patient information.
HCA Gulf Coast Division is the Houston area’s largest health system, with 15 acute care hospitals, three, specialty hospitals, 10 free-standing emergency centers, nine ambulatory surgery centers, more than 10,000 active physicians, and 15,000 employees.
“This partnership helps HCA Gulf Coast Division’s physicians better serve the community by helping them receive the right patient information at the right time,” said Greg Bernica, executive vice president of Harris County Medical Society and a Greater Houston Healthconnect board member. “Even more exciting is that the change actually helps all physicians in the region. Non-HCA physicians will now have access to information on care their patients received at HCA facilities.”
