“Good health is priceless. That’s why your charitable gifts to TMA Foundation are so valuable.”
That’s the message from Susan M. Pike, MD, president of the Texas Medical Association Foundation (TMAF), in its 2018 Annual Report.
“In 2018, your donations funded initiatives that brought needed health services and education to 100,000+ Texans in 2018. Thank you!” Dr. Pike’s message says.
TMAF funds provide Texans needed health services and evidenced-based health education. Highlights in 2018 include:
- Nearly 30,000 Texans increased their regular physical activity by participating in one of 64 Walk With a Doc Texas monthly physician-led walks across the state (up from 39 walk sites in 2017, a 64% increase).
- 20,515 vaccinations protected Texans of all ages from preventable diseases through TMA’s Be Wise–ImmunizeSM program (up from 17,375 shots provided in 2017, an 18% increase).
- 29,302 bike helmets given to Texans ages 3-14 encouraged increased activity and safe bike riding (up from 28,817 free helmets provided in 2017, a 2% increase) through TMA’s Hard Hats for Little Heads program.
- 12 Texas medical students each received a $10,000 TMA Diversity in Medicine Scholarship and are recognized as “Bayardo Scholars.”
