To incentivize the development of residency programs that prepare physicians for practice in rural, underserved areas, the federal Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) is now accepting applications for the 2020 Primary Care Training and Enhancement: Residency Training in Primary Care (PCTE-RTPC) Program.
The program offers “funding to enhance accredited residency training programs in family medicine, general internal medicine, general pediatrics or combined internal medicine and pediatrics in rural and/or underserved areas, and encourage program graduates to choose primary care careers in these areas,” HRSA said.
Public or nonprofit private hospitals, accredited allopathic and osteopathic schools, or a public or nonprofit entity determined capable of carrying out residency training programs in those specialties are eligible for funds.
HRSA expects about $10 million to be available to up to 20 grantees.
The application cycle closes Jan. 24, 2020.
