Stand Up for Medicine – VOTE TOMORROW
By Jennifer Perkins

Voters across the country are saying health care is their paramount concern. The Texas Medical Association and TEXPAC couldn’t agree more.

Whatever their motivation, Texas voters are speaking up in record numbers. More votes have been cast during early voting than were cast statewide during the entire general election in 2016. That’s more than 9.7 million early voters this year versus 8.9 million total voters in the 2016 presidential election, according to the Texas Secretary of State.

Election Day is tomorrow, Tuesday, Nov. 3.

Don’t let reports of high levels of turnout keep you from voting.

The outcome of some of the races that TMA is watching have the potential to impact medicine’s advocacy. At the very least, a new speaker of the Texas House of Representatives will be elected, which will determine who chairs and serves on what committees.

Some quick homework will make voting go smoothly. Review your candidate options, which can be found on your county’s ballot. You can find the list of TEXPAC-endorsed candidates on the TEXPAC website

Here’s what you need to know to vote:

  • Double-check if you are registered to vote. If you are not registered, it is too late for this election, but you can still register to vote for the next primary election in March 2022.

  • Find a polling location. You may be able to vote at any polling location in your home county on Election Day. Otherwise, you will have to vote at your assigned precinct. Look for the “VOTE HERE” sign.

  • Review the acceptable forms of valid photo ID. You can also bring one of the alternate supporting forms of ID along with a completed Reasonable Impediment Declaration, which the polling location will provide.

  • Absentee ballots must be postmarked by Election Day and received by Wednesday, Nov. 4 at 5 pm.

Stand up for your profession. Every single vote counts. And matters. Vote tomorrow.
