Stress comes in many forms, especially during the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic. The Texas Medical Association‘s Committee on Physician Health and Wellness (PHW) offers resources to help physicians better deal with those stressors.
Want to rate your state of physical health and well-being? Start with a Stress and Burnout Self-Assessment, or check out TMA’s Stress and Burnout in an Environment of Change brochure for tips on managing stress.
Then choose from TMA’s variety of wellness plug-ins, or toolkits, which provide tips, tools, CME courses, and other resources on topics such as emotional and physical well-being, work-life balance, burnout, stress, and fatigue.
The committee also offers several CME courses available for Ethics credit, free to TMA members, that can aid in managing stresses and seeking wellness:
- Balance for Life: A fresh look at life activities and core values can help you set better boundaries. Find out steps you can take to achieve a more balanced life.
- Overpowering Occupational Stress: A variety of factors can lead to professional stress and burnout. Learn coping skills and better ways to create a supportive, healthy workplace.
- The Dynamics of Challenging Patient Encounters: Frustration and stress can result from difficult patient interactions. Learn how to manage these with empathy and control.
Financial resources also are available through TMA for physicians who need short-term treatment for depression, substance abuse, or other issues affecting their ability to practice medicine.
