When Physicians Need Treatment, TMA’s PBF Wellness Fund Can Help
By Tammy Wishard

If COVID-19 or other conditions are affecting your well-being, the Texas Medical Association is here to help you seek assistance.

TMA’s PBF Wellness Fund provides financial support to qualified physicians who need treatment for conditions that impair their ability to practice medicine safely, as well as financial support to their immediate families.

The PBF Wellness Fund is available for physicians who cannot afford treatment for mental or substance use disorders, or other impairments. Financial assistance also is available for short-term living expenses for families while the physician receives treatment.

“The assistance fund is meant to allow physicians the dignity of getting back on their feet. I am really grateful the fund was there when I needed it,” said one physician who received support through the fund.

Applicants must complete a confidential application. If you need financial assistance, or know of a physician or physician’s family in need, contact Chris Johnson, PBF senior program manager.

The PBF Wellness Fund is one of three funds through which TMA provides financial support to physicians; the others are The Physicians Benevolent Fund and the PBF Disaster Relief Fund. In addition, PBF provides funding for educational resources to improve your well-being, developed by TMA’s Committee on Physician Health and Wellness.

TMA’s ability to continue helping physicians and their families is dependent upon donations.  Please consider contributing via a secure, online donation, or by sending a check to PBF Wellness Fund, Attn: TMA Finance Department, 401 W. 15th St., Austin, TX 78701-1680. Contributions are tax-deductible and may be in the form of honoraria or memorials.
