Meet Richardson nephrologist Gates B. Colbert, MD, chair of the Texas Medical Association’s Young Physician Section.
He believes the section is an important part of TMA because “young physicians are at the critical point of [being] just out of training, but not quite into the stride of their practices and career. We are a many-thousand-physician bloc that is meeting the challenges of taking excellent care of patients, balancing the needs of our families, and growing our careers.”
Dr. Colbert said a benefit of membership in the section is that “we support one another with the mission to help patients, protect the physician as the leader of the health care team, and be leaders in our community. Texas needs strong physicians, and TMA helps allow that [to] happen. No one else is rooting for us as their primary mission. To me, that is important.”
Dr. Colbert is an alumnus of the TMA Leadership College. If you would like to bolster your leadership skills and strengthen your voice as a trusted leader, learn more in the program overview.
