A new process in the state Vaccine Allocation and Ordering System (VAOS) will significantly reduce the amount of data entry required from physician practices when ordering COVID-19 vaccines.
The process, called COVID Open Ordering, allows practices to order multiple categories of vaccines together, rather than having to place separate orders for each vaccine brand and type. Open ordering can be accessed through a new tab on the VAOS homepage labeled “COVID Open Ordering.”
In an open order request, practices can select a checkbox for each category they’re requesting. Under each checkbox are fields for order details such as number of doses, pack and vial sizes, and ancillary kit preferences.
The process for transferring and reporting COVID-19 vaccine doses will remain the same, the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) says.
The DSHS Immunization Program has a demonstration of the new process, along with additional vaccine management and VAOS resources on its website.
If you have questions, email DSHS COVID-19 Vaccine Management.
If you or your practice are licensed to possess and administer vaccines and are interested in enrolling to be a COVID-19 vaccine provider, visit DSHS’ Enroll Texas website.
