To navigate a complicated medical landscape with increasing challenges, the Texas Medical Association will host its first Business of Medicine Conference – formerly Fall Conference – Oct. 5-7, at the Hyatt Lost Pines Resort in Bastrop.

While the conference still will host TMA’s important board, council, committee, and section meetings, physicians will have more than triple the amount of programming to choose from over Friday and Saturday. Content will cover current events – such as telemedicine, information-blocking regulations, recent legislative changes, and more – so physicians can leave the event with confidence to competently navigate modern practice.

The Business of Medicine Conference has been specially structured to minimize schedule conflicts, including the return of Small Talks Coffee Breaks from conferences earlier this year. These breaks will allow attendees to learn about resources, connect with others, and check in and out of their accommodations without missing helpful programming or business meetings.

What won’t change for Business of Medicine is the importance of TMA’s Legislative Update, presented by TMA Vice President of Public Affairs and Chief Lobbyist Clayton Stewart, joined by TMA President Rick Snyder, MD. This Closing Session Lunch will go over the 2023 Texas Legislature’s actions and what they mean for physicians in the state.

Content starts with Friday’s Opening Session Lunch, featuring a panel discussion: “Preparing Physicians for the Future,” with notes on ambulatory centers, self-employment, and more. David Mackey, MD, a professor at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, will lead the panel. This presentation format will be similar to previous years’ Dawn Duster event, without the early wakeup call.

Attendees who arrive Thursday before the opening session can enjoy another new conference offering: a pickleball pick-up game from 4-6 pm CT, equipment and instruction provided. To further relax and connect, members also can attend Friday’s 4:30 pm CT Networking Happy Hour in the Exhibit Hall, followed by the All-Conference Mixer at 8 pm CT, hosted by TMA sections and sponsored by the TMA Insurance Trust. The mixer will feature nine-hole mini-golf, and members’ guests are welcome.

Register now to reserve your seat. Early registration closes Friday, Sept. 29, and will resume on site at the hotel on Friday, Oct. 6. Be sure to book your hotel by Wednesday, Sept. 13, to ensure a special group rate of $239 per night.
