After recognizing the dire needs of private practice physicians, Texas Medical Association leaders have appointed the members of its inaugural Committee on Independent Physician Practice with broad representation.
At TexMed in May, the House of Delegates voted in favor of establishing the standing committee, which reports to the TMA Board of Trustees.
“I look forward to working together to strengthen the independent practice of medicine in Texas,” President G. Ray Callas, MD, said.
Dr. Callas tapped Michelle Berger, MD, an Austin ophthalmologist, and Amy Townsend, MD, a family physician from Bridge City, as the respective chair and vice chair of the committee. TMA then issued a call for volunteers to fill the rest of the committee, resulting in close to 60 nominees.
With the intention of having representation from all counties, as well as from various practice sizes and specialties, the following additional 13 members were selected and accepted to serve:
- Houston general surgeon Victoria C. Chang, MD
- Houston radiologist Cristin A. Dickerson, MD
- Houston neurologist William S. Gilmer, MD
- San Antonio pediatrician John Isaac, MD
- Frisco internist Bryan G. Johnson, MD
- Dallas pediatrician Jeffrey B. Kahn, MD
- Houston pediatrician Domalapalli M. Kumar, DO
- Plano psychiatrist Aekta Malhotra, MD
- Austin orthopedic surgeon John E. McDonald, Jr, MD
- El Paso internist Roxanne M. Tyroch, MD, FACP
- Arlington family physician Mike Uselton, MD
- Beaumont otolaryngologist Andrew J. Victores, MD
- Huntsville obstetrician-gynecologist Yasser F. Zeid, MD
