UHC Expands EZ Claim Pay Service to Certain Texas Medicare Patients
By Alisa Pierce

As of July 1, UnitedHealthcare (UHC) has expanded its EZ Claim Pay service to Texas for Medicare Supplement Plan G patients, and for those patients who enroll, physicians won’t need to bill them directly for their Medicare Part B deductible.

However, physicians need not change how they submit claims for enrolled members, per the payer.

The service allows patients to elect for UHC to pay their Medicare Part B deductible on their behalf automatically when Medicare applies all or part of their deductible to eligible claims.

UHC withdraws EZ Claim Pay payments directly from patients’ accounts via electronic funds transfer and then sends payment to the physician by check – not electronically – independently from other claim payments. These payments include claim-related information, such as the claim number, so physicians can accurately apply the EZ Claim Pay payments to the patient’s responsibility.

Texas Medical Association experts encourage practices to ensure they have a correct “pay to” or mailing address on file with UHC.

Patients who use the service won’t need to monitor the amount owed to their physicians to satisfy their Medicare Part B deductible out-of-pocket expenses; UHC will do it for them.
