Members of the TMA family may nominate local journalists for the TMA Anson Jones, MD, Awards, which recognize excellence in health journalism in Texas. If you read, view, or hear a great health-related story, let us know.
Nominating a local journalist is a great way to enhance your relationship with your local media and encourage continued quality health news coverage. For more than 60 years, TMA has honored award-winning Texas journalists with the Anson Jones, MD, Awards.

- TMA physician members
- Medical students
- County medical societies
- TMA Alliance members
Local journalists also can submit their work for the awards.
What Can Be Nominated
Any news published or broadcast in 2025 is eligible. The Anson Jones Awards competition recognizes print, broadcast (television and radio), and online media in six different categories. In addition, TMA names a Texas Health Journalist of the Year in large and small Texas media markets.
How to Nominate a Journalist or Story
- When you read, hear, or view a great health news story make note to nominate it for an Anson Jones Award.
- Email your nomination to ansonjones@texmed.org. All TMA needs is the reporter’s name, name of article (if available), date of broadcast/publication, and the media outlet. Include a URL if you have that.
- We’ll let the reporter know you nominated them/their story and encourage them to visit the Anson Jones Awards webpage to complete the nomination.
- Repeat. There is no limit to the number of stories you may nominate.
