As of Sept. 1, the Texas Medical Board (TMB) is no longer issuing paper licenses for physicians or physician assistants. Instead, new and renewed licenses will be available via the My TMB online portal.
The change is among TMB’s efforts to increase efficiency while reducing costs, the board said in its August bulletin.
Electronic licenses will be available on the portal two business days after a license is issued or a registration/renewal is complete. “You will be able to use the same system to view, save, or print a copy of your active license as needed,” TMB said.
Paper documents are going away for full Texas physician licenses, as well as special licenses for telemedicine, administrative, conceded eminence, and public health licenses.
In addition to electronic licenses, TMB will also begin to send more notifications via email.
“We encourage all licensees to log into their My TMB account to make sure their e-mail addresses are current so they can also benefit from e-mail notifications going forward,” TMB said.
