Have a Say in Texas’ Broadband Expansion Plan

Telemedicine has made a home in the health care system, and the trend will continue as broadband availability increases thanks to infusion of new state and federal funding.

Now is medicine’s chance to tell state developers how important a strong and well-defined broadband plan is to telemedicine and its implications for access to care, either in person or through an online survey.

Following passage of a Texas Medical Association-supported law to beef up the state’s broadband internet capability, Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar kicked off a statewide Texas Broadband Listening Tour to gather input from Texans on developing the state’s first broadband plan. The 12-city tour began March 1 and has two stops remaining: April 26 in Edinburg and April 28 in San Angelo.

To register for a free tour event near you, visit the comptroller’s website. And if you do plan to attend, TMA wants to know. Please contact Shannon Vogel or your county medical society. (You must still register for the event.)

If you can't make either of the remaining listening sessions, you can also weigh in on broadband access through the state Broadband Development Office's online survey.
