If you got a loan from the federal COVID-19 Provider Relief Fund’s (PRF’s) first reporting period and requested to report your funds late, watch out for the government’s response to that request. And, if you got a loan from the fund’s second reporting period, good news: The deadline to request to report late has been extended yet again to May 18 – but you’ll have to act fast.
Here are the details:
As of last week, the PRF began notifying physicians of its response to those who received more than $10,000 between April 10 and June 30, 2020, and filed a request to report late by April 22, according to the federal Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).
If their request was approved, they must submit their completed funding report to the PRF Reporting Portal within 10 days of being notified. If their request was denied, they must return their funds. HRSA says it will provide information about this process – including the deadline by which physicians must return their funds – in the rejection notice.
Physicians who received more than $10,000 from the fund during the second reporting period – between July 1 and Dec. 31, 2020 – have received an extension on their late reporting but should act immediately. They can now file a Request to Report Late Due to Extenuating Circumstances until this Wednesday, May 18, at 10:59 pm CT.
HRSA’s allowable extenuating circumstances for a late report are:
- Severe illness or death – A severe medical condition or death of a practitioner or key staff member responsible for reporting hindered the organization’s ability to complete the report during the reporting period.
- Natural disaster – A natural disaster occurred during or close to the end of the reporting period that damaged the organization’s records or information technology.
- Lack of receipt of reporting communications – An incorrect email or mailing address on file with HRSA prevented the organization from receiving instructions before the deadline.
- Failure to click “Submit” – The organization registered and prepared a report in the reporting portal but failed to click “Submit” before the deadline.
- Internal miscommunication or error – Miscommunication or error occurred regarding who was authorized and expected to submit the report on behalf of the organization and/or registered point of contact.
- Incomplete targeted distribution payment – The organization’s parent entity completed all general distribution payments, but the subsidiary didn’t report a targeted distribution or distributions.
