Recent mass shootings, including at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde on March 24 and at a medical office building in Tulsa, Okla., on June 1, have spotlighted the tragic need for attack
preparedness.
The Texas Medical Association offers the following CME courses to help physicians safeguard their practices:
- Active Attack Events and Preparedness – This webinar trains physicians and their staff on how to prepare for and survive a violent
attack at their practice. TMA developed the course after the 2021 shooting death of Austin pediatrician Lindley Dodson, MD, who was taken hostage at the clinic where she worked. Participants are eligible for 1 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™,
1 ethics credit.
- An Expert’s Tips for Personal Safety – This podcast episode features Fred Burton, a personal safety expert and former counterterrorism
special agent, who shares personal safety tips for use in the workplace and at home. Participants are eligible for 0.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.
- Addressing Communication Barriers in a Controversial Environment – This ethics panel discussion, recorded during TexMed 2022,
comprises a diverse group of physicians who share their tips for talking to patients about sensitive topics, including gun safety. Participants are eligible for 0.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™, 0.75 ethics credits.
