Meet Anand Singh, a medical student at TCU School of Medicine and Texas Medical Association Medical Student Section (MSS) member. Mr. Singh finds value in the MSS because “although we are relatively young in our medical careers, our unity as a section and passion for health care advocacy amplifies our impact we have as medical students.”
As an active member of TMA, Mr. Singh has met many people who share a similar passion for advocacy and policy, and has found lifelong friends, colleagues, and mentors through the organization. He keeps up with current health care legislation that impacts Texans, and TMA has provided him with leadership opportunities to advocate for change on a larger scale.
Mr. Singh’s personal motto is “unity in diversity,” a philosophy that reflects not only the path he’s walking to a future career in medicine but also his experiences as a dancer and dance instructor. As a second-generation American, he pursued Bollywood dancing as a child. As he grew older, he began to fuse his Eastern heritage with his new Western heritage by combining Bollywood dance with hip-hop and other dance forms. Through this fusion of dance styles, he began to find other individuals who shared a similar passion. Mr. Singh continues to teach dance workshops at his medical school to share his heritage and build community.
Similarly, in medicine he hopes to engage with diverse populations and synthesize their perspectives to improve their health outcomes. He believes listening to and understanding these diverse perspectives will find that unity in diversity, and result in patient-centered care.
