TMA elected Fort Worth medical student Parminder Deo in May 2024 to a one-year term as the TMA Medical Student Section representative on the board. He is a student at the Anne Burnett Marion School of Medicine at Texas Christian University.
"I am beyond honored to be elected to represent the over 8,500 section members and the nearly 10,000 medical students across Texas," said Mr. Deo. "I am eager to leverage my unique blend of public health knowledge and communications expertise on the TMA Board of Trustees."
Mr. Deo has been involved in TMA since starting medical school. He has served as the TMA student section’s reporter and a chapter delegate, participated in two policy review committees, founded one at his school, and led community health awareness campaigns.
"As a board member, my aim is to bridge the gap between practice and policymaking, ensuring that our future health care leaders are not only prepared to excel in their fields but are also proactive advocates for the communities they will serve," Mr. Deo said.
Mr. Deo previously worked as a broadcast journalist for NBC News, producing health and medical content for the TODAY Show, MSNBC, and NBC Nightly News.
He holds a master of public health degree from Dartmouth College and bachelor's degrees in journalism and biological sciences from Southern Methodist University.
