More than 500 Texas Medical Association and TMA Alliance members and friends of medicine made Wonderland, the 31st TMA Foundation Gala, a record-breaking success by raising more than $475,000.
Through sponsorship, ticket sales, and auction items, the gala raises funds each year for a wide range of programs to support TMA’s vision to improve the health of all Texans.
The May 3 event, held during TMA’s TexMed in Dallas, featured Dallas Eclipse, a four-piece classic rock cover band that includes TMA Executive Vice President and CEO Michael Darrouzet on guitar and vocals.
“Many guests absolutely loved this band and asked us to invite them back to a future gala,” said internist Donna Casey, MD, who co-chaired the gala with her husband, pulmonologist Gary Weinstein, MD, alongside Roger Khetan, MD, Thomas Heil, MD, Rainer Khetan, MD, and Anita Khetan, MD, all of Dallas.
Top patron H-E-B was joined by 64 additional sponsors, whose guests enjoyed a chance to win Kendra Scott jewelry, participate in silent and live auctions, visit with friends and colleagues, and dance the night away.
More than 100 guests donated to the Make-A-Difference drive to win a $10,500 challenge grant from an anonymous donor couple for TMA’s Hard Hats for Little Heads program. By the end of the night, $42,033 was raised in support of the program.
“This record amount is a fitting way to celebrate that this is the 30th year of TMA’s head-injury prevention program,” TMAF President Carla Ortique, MD, said.
