In his travels around the state talking to TMA members, TMA Past-President Tom Garcia, MD, often fields questions about Texas’ vaccine exemptions.
As a result, TMA’s Committee on Child and Adolescent Health and Committee on Infectious Diseases prepared this two-page guide to help you talk to patients about the exemptions. It covers exemption requirements, Texas student conscientious exemption data, talking points, medical contraindications and precautions, and where to find further information.
Texas is one of 19 states that allow exemptions to vaccines required for school children because of medical contraindications and reasons of conscience.
