Our Mission: To Promote Diversity and Integration in Texas Medicine
The IMG Section was created to:
- Provide a direct means for IMGs to participate in the activities of the TMA,
- Enhance TMA outreach,
- Promote communication and interchange among IMGs,
- Promote TMA membership growth,
- Enhance the ability of IMGs to provide their perspective to TMA and its House of Delegates, and
- Facilitate the development of information and educational activities on topics of interest to IMGs.
IMG Membership Is Important Because ...
Udipi P. Rao, MD:
"Several rural and innercity hospitals and clinics are staffed by IMGs, and they need to belong to the TMA family to have an avenue to make it easier for them in their practice and lifestyle. As approximately one in five physicians in Texas is an international medical graduate, it is vital we keep their goals and ambitions in mind and help them remain in mainstream medicine. We should encourage new physicians and residents to continue as TMA members, and guide TMA councils and committees to make health care for Texans the best in the county."
Vijay B. Koli, MD:
"It gives you sense of belonging ... share your concerns and ideas with your colleagues, and participate in shaping our profession to make a difference to our patients."
Nalin H. Tolia, MD:
"We have some distinct and unique problems and concerns that can be addressed here."
Robina Poonawala, MD:
"Through unity, we have strength to enact, change, and have a voice."
Rajam Ramamurthy, MD:
"The leadership of any organization emerges from the grassroots. The greater the grassroots, the better the chances of IMG leadership at TMA. Your presence at TMA ensures that."
