To raise awareness of and help curb human trafficking in Texas, state legislators passed a law in 2019 requiring physicians to take one hour of CME on the topic in order to renew their medical licenses.
Now you can meet that requirement by attending the Texas Medical Association’s 2021 Winter Conference, which will be held entirely virtually Jan. 29 and 30.
During the conference, which is free for TMA members to attend, you’ll be able to access the on-demand video “Identifying Human Trafficking in Texas: What Physicians Need to Know,” featuring Melinda Lopez, MD, and Melinda Schalow, MD.
The course describes how to recognize those parts of a patient’s medical history and physical that suggest human trafficking, and how to identify red flags in a patient’s behavior. It also details the next step after identifying a potential victim: how to take action.
The course, which meets all human trafficking training standards required by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission , is accredited for 1 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ and 1 Ethics.
