As augmented and artificial intelligence (AI) dominate headlines, the Texas Medical Association is looking to ensure physicians’ interests are represented and protected.
In yet another step toward that goal, TMA seeks to expand the work of its Committee on Health Information Technology (HIT) by adding AI experts to the group, says TMA President Ray Callas, MD.
TMA’s HIT Committee continues to work on AI issues and adopted related policy in 2022, which the House of Delegates updated in May. TMA member candidates looking to serve on the committee as AI experts should have experience in active medical practice and using or implementing AI in that setting; technology literacy; and interest in medical ethics, policymaking, and risk management.
Dr. Callas says candidates may earn “bonus points” if they have:
- Broad medical background,
- Knowledge of regulatory standards,
- Knowledge of medical ethics,
- Experience with policy development,
- Experience with risk management, or
- Experience with medical technology implementation.
Physicians who are interested in serving in this capacity and who meet the qualifications must log in to TMA’s leadership portal to submit a nomination no later than Monday, June 17. You may nominate or share the form with others.
Questions may be directed to Shannon Vogel, TMA associate vice president of health information technology.
