What’s new at the Texas Medical Association? Quite a lot, actually.
If you didn’t already know, TMA installed a new president – Austin colon and rectal surgeon David C. Fleeger, MD – along with other leaders and officers at the annual TexMed meeting in May.
TMA’s House of Delegates also adopted official policy on a variety of issues important to medicine, including maintenance of certification (MOC), uncompensated care, personhood, and parental leave.
TMA also pushed state lawmakers this past session to pass medicine-friendly legislation, such as improvements to surprise billing, prior authorization, maternal health, and underage smoking. Your association also stopped numerous bad bills covering scope of practice and end-of-life care.

During the meeting, Dr. Fleeger discussed new TMA policy and officers; Darren Whitehurst, TMA vice president of public affairs, gave a recap of TMA’s legislative wins; John Flores, MD, gave an update on the Lone Star Caucus, which represents your county in the TMA House of Delegates; and Sylvia Salazar, TMA associate vice president of membership and leadership development, talked about some of the many benefits that TMA offers.
