Alixandria Pfeiffer, DO, was elected to the TMA Board of Trustees in 2022 for a one-year term representing the TMA Resident and Fellow Section.
Soon after joining the board, she learned how passionate the board members are. “It is positively overwhelming to be able to experience this aura of striving to achieve something greater than ourselves and for the betterment of patients and physicians.”
A member of the Bexar County Medical Society, Dr. Pfeiffer is committed to organized medicine because it is reliant upon teamwork and collaboration. “Without either, I believe we cannot achieve the best possible outcomes/care for our patients.”
Her greatest hope for organized medicine: physicians stand united in the fight for improved access to care and an improved workplace environment for physicians. Without such unity, she fears, “polarizing views on issues beyond medicine will hamper advancement of medicine and proper patient care.”
A TMA member for three years, Dr. Pfeiffer serves on the Educational Scholarship and Loan Committee and the Committee on Reproductive, Women’s, and Perinatal Health. She previously served on TMA’s Council on Constitution and Bylaws.
Dr. Pfeiffer’s leadership outside TMA includes serving as the junior fellow vice chair of a regional chapter of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. She also is a 2022 resident scholar in the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine, which provides mentoring and educational opportunities during the final two years of a physician’s obstetrics and gynecology residency.
She believes physicians can be a leader in any facet of medicine and at any time in their career. “Start early, build on your triumphs and enjoy your failures,” she said, and “don’t be afraid or intimidated by advocacy because of lack of experience.”
